Father Who Pleaded Guilty in Daughter's Hot Car Death Dies by Suicide
A father named Christopher Scholtes was supposed to go to prison for a long time because he accidentally let his little girl, Parker, die in a very hot car.
He had admitted he was guilty of this terrible accident.
Parker died because the car got extremely hot, reaching almost 109 degrees, while her dad was inside the house for hours playing games, drinking beer, and watching movies.
Even though he left the car running with the air conditioning on, it eventually stopped, and the car became like an oven.
His wife said it was a mistake, but texts showed he often left his children in the car.
Just before he was supposed to go to jail on Wednesday, he died by suicide in his home.
The police are investigating how he died, but it is believed he took his own life before facing his punishment.
Christopher Scholtes, who admitted to leaving his 2-year-old daughter in a hot car, died by suicide.
He was scheduled to report to prison for his sentencing and died hours before he was due to go.
Scholtes had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and intentional child abuse in the July 2024 death of his daughter, Parker.
Parker died in the vehicle, which reached 108.9 degrees Fahrenheit after Scholtes left her unattended for over three hours while he engaged in other activities.
Authorities have not released Scholtes' cause of death, but it is believed to be suicide, and an investigation is ongoing.
