Sikkim to Host Cherry Blossom Festival Promoting Rural and Astro-Tourism
Imagine a special festival happening in a place called Sikkim, where pretty pink cherry blossoms are blooming!
This festival is like a party to celebrate these flowers, which also mean it's time to harvest the rice.
It's organized by a group that loves nature and tourism, and they want to show off the local culture and food in a few villages.
For the first time ever, they are also going to let people look at the stars in the clear night sky, which is called astro-tourism.
There will be new paths for walking, beautiful drives among the trees, and chances to try yummy local food.
This helps the villagers share their traditions and also connects Sikkim with other places like Nepal and Bhutan.
The Association for Conservation and Tourism (ACT) will organize a three-day Cherry Blossom Festival starting this Sunday in Temi-Namthing, South Sikkim.
The festival aims to boost rural tourism through cultural exchange, community engagement, and highlighting local traditions.
A new feature this year is astro-tourism, allowing visitors to observe the Himalayan night sky.
Selected villages, Gangchung, Ben (predominantly Sherpa), and Chalamthang (Sikkim's first vegetarian village), will showcase their unique culture and sustainable lifestyles.
The event also aims to strengthen cultural ties and promote sustainable tourism between India, Nepal, and Bhutan through similar initiatives.
