India EV Registrations Hit Record as September Sales Surge
India registered more electric vehicles in September than in any earlier month.
About one in every eight registered vehicles was electric.
Electric two-wheelers made up most of the electric vehicles registered.
Their share of two-wheeler registrations rose to about 11.6%.
Electric cars and SUVs nearly doubled in number compared with September last year.
Three-wheelers were still the vehicle type most likely to be electric.
Electric vehicles also made up a larger share of commercial vehicles than a year earlier.
FADA linked the growth to factors including festive demand, more model choices, running costs, and policy support.
The reports differ slightly on the exact total number of EVs sold.
Electric vehicles made up about 13% of India’s 25.37 lakh vehicle registrations in September, reaching a record monthly high.
FADA reported overall EV sales growth of 74% year on year; the articles give slightly different totals of 3,33,364 and 3,33,634.
Electric two-wheeler registrations reached about 2.07 lakh, accounting for more than 60% of EV volume.
Electric passenger vehicle registrations nearly doubled year on year to about 36,100.
Electric three-wheelers remained the most electrified category, with 64.90% penetration; commercial-vehicle EV penetration rose to 4.04%.
