SC Orders ECI to Publish Excluded Names in West Bengal SIR
The Supreme Court told the Election Commission to publish the names of about 1.25 crore people who were removed from the voter list in West Bengal.
These people were removed because there were some 'logical discrepancies' in their information.
The Election Commission said they found many cases where people had linked themselves to too many children, which is not possible.
The Court wants to make sure that everyone has a fair chance to prove they should be on the voter list.
The Election Commission will now have to display these names in public places so that people can check and submit their documents if needed.
The Court will hear more about this next Tuesday.
Supreme Court directed ECI to publish names of 1.25 crore individuals excluded due to 'logical discrepancies' in West Bengal's SIR.
ECI defended issuing notices to 2 crore individuals for verification, citing cases of electors linked to unusually high numbers of children.
ECI identified five types of discrepancies, including age gaps and multiple children linked to one person.
Supreme Court ordered ECI to display names of affected individuals at Gram Panchayat Bhavans, Block Offices, and Ward Offices.
Next hearing on the matter is scheduled for Tuesday.
