Manipur’s Emerging Naga-Kuki Fault Line Deepens Ethnic Security Crisis

Manipur has been facing ethnic violence for several years.

At first, the main conflict was between Meitei and Kuki communities.

A newer conflict has now grown between Kuki-Zo and Naga communities.

It began after a fight involving young people in February.

Since then, homes have been burned, people have been killed or abducted, and roads have been blocked.

Different reports give different death tolls, including at least 34 deaths reported by Human Rights Watch and more than 60 cited by N. Biren Singh.

Leaders are asking for stronger and fairer security measures.

The article says that reopening roads is not enough to rebuild trust.

It argues that dialogue, civilian protection and solutions to land and political disputes are also needed.
