China opens first regular cargo route through Arctic waters

China opens first regular cargo route through Arctic waters

Big ships carry things like clothes, food, and toys from factories in Asia to people in Europe.

For a very long time, those ships had to travel a long way around the world.

One reason was that the Arctic Ocean, near the North Pole, was covered in thick ice.

Now the ice is melting because the Earth is getting warmer, which opens up new paths.

War in the Middle East has also made some old shipping paths harder to use.

A Chinese company is starting a new 'regular' cargo route, meaning it will run over and over again, not just once.

The ships will travel through Arctic waters on their way from Asia to Europe.

This route is quicker, which saves time for the people waiting for their packages.

It also uses less fuel, which means ships spend less money on energy.

This is the first regular cargo service through the Arctic to Europe.
