Rajya Sabha Passes Anti‑Paper Leak Bill After Opposition Walkout
The Indian Parliament has passed a new law to stop people from leaking exam papers.
The law says that anyone caught leaking papers can go to jail for up to 10 years and pay a big fine.
It also creates special courts that will finish cases quickly.
Some opposition members walked out of the debate because they were unhappy with the law.
After the law is approved by the President, it will become official.
The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, cleared the Rajya Sabha by voice vote after an opposition walkout.
The bill increases penalties for paper leaks, allowing up to 10 years imprisonment and fines up to Rs 50 lakh, with higher sentences for organized syndicates.
It creates special fast‑track courts and a central task force to investigate and prosecute exam‑related offences.
Opposition MPs staged a walkout during the debate, citing concerns over the bill’s impact and demanding broader reforms in exam administration.
The bill will now be sent to President Droupadi Murmu for assent before becoming law.
