India Probes Cough Syrup, Nine Child Deaths
Officials are investigating if cough syrup contaminated with a dangerous chemical called DEG caused nine children to die in India.
The Health Ministry is testing Coldrif, a cough syrup made by Sresan Pharma, because it was found to have too much DEG, which is poisonous.
While tests from some areas showed the syrup was okay, Tamil Nadu confirmed DEG contamination in the syrup.
Inspections are happening in different states to find out what went wrong.
This is not the first time India's medicine quality has been questioned, as other cough syrups made by another company have been linked to child deaths in another country.
Indian authorities are investigating a possible link between contaminated cough syrup and nine child deaths.
