Telangana Seeks Rs 50,000 Crore for Irrigation Projects
The Telangana government is trying to get Rs 50,000 crore from a big bank in Mumbai to build new irrigation projects and finish old ones.
The Chief Minister and the Irrigation Minister met with the bank in secret to ask for the money.
The bank seems ready to help, but there are rules and checks to follow.
The state needs this money because it doesn't have enough to spend on other important things like welfare programs.
One big project they want to start is the Pranahita-Chevella Lift Irrigation, which will cost about Rs 30,000 crore.
The government is planning more meetings to talk about how to get this money and follow the rules.
Meanwhile, Telangana has been trying to monitor how much Krishna river water Andhra Pradesh is using by installing telemetry devices.
However, the KRMB has diverted the funds Telangana paid for these devices to pay staff salaries due to a financial crisis caused by both states not releasing their shares of operational costs.
Telangana government seeks Rs 50,000 crore for irrigation projects over the next three years.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy met with a Mumbai-based financial institution to discuss funding.
The financial institution expressed readiness to support the state's irrigation projects.
The state is facing a fund crunch and cannot borrow more from the RBI, necessitating external funding.
The Pranahita-Chevella Lift Irrigation project, requiring Rs 30,000 crore, is a key priority.
