Rajgad's Regenerative Model Tackles Water Scarcity
In a place called Rajgad in Maharashtra, India, there was a big problem: even though it rains a lot, the water would run away too fast, leaving people without clean water to drink.
A group called the Raintree Foundation started working there in 2018 to fix this.
They put in special water filters powered by the sun, so people can get clean water easily.
They also built big tanks to store water and made special ponds for farms.
Now, people don't have to walk far for water, and they can grow more food.
The community is working together to take care of these resources, and everyone is healthier and happier.
Rajgad, a rain-fed region in Maharashtra, faced water scarcity due to its slope, causing rainwater to rush away.
The Raintree Foundation implemented a regenerative development model since 2018, impacting over 4,000 people across nine villages.
Nine solar-powered water filters with ATMs now provide clean drinking water, reducing illness and daily water collection efforts.
A percolation tank, desilted with community help, stores over 1 crore litres of water, alleviating water shortages.
Sixty-two biodigesters have replaced smoky chulhas, and seventy-three farm ponds have revived farming aspirations, promoting self-sufficiency.
