BJP Leaders Reject Opposition Calls for Proceedings Against Election Chief

Two BJP leaders spoke to reporters in Kakinada.

They said opposition leaders were wrong to seek criminal cases against the Chief Election Commissioner.

The BJP leaders pointed to a 2023 law that protects election officials from legal proceedings over work they do in their official roles.

They said courts cannot hear or continue such cases.

They also criticized Congress for challenging the law about how election commissioners are appointed.

They accused Congress of changing laws in the past after Supreme Court decisions.

To make their argument, they mentioned the Shah Bano case and the appointment of P.J. Thomas.

These are claims made by the BJP leaders at the briefing.
