IDPs Seek Inclusion in Electoral Rolls
Thousands of people who had to leave their homes in Chhattisgarh because of violence are now living in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
They have been there for a long time, but they are worried that their names might be removed from the voter list because they are not living in Chhattisgarh anymore.
They wrote a letter to the Election Commission of India asking to be included in the voter list so they can vote in the elections.
They are afraid that without proper documents, they might lose their right to vote.
Thousands of IDPs from Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region seek inclusion in electoral rolls.
They were displaced due to Naxal violence and the Salwa Judum movement in the early 2000s.
The Valasa Adivasulu Samakhya association wrote to the ECI on December 12.
IDPs fear disenfranchisement as their names are being removed for 'non-residence'.
No official survey or verification mechanism has been conducted to document their displacement.
