SC Questions Partial Forensic Test of Manipur Violence Audio
The Supreme Court of India is upset because not all the leaked audio clips related to the violence in Manipur were sent for testing.
The court wants to know why only some parts were checked.
The audio clips are about 56 minutes long, but only 48 minutes were sent to a special lab called the National Forensic Science Laboratory (NFSL).
The NFSL said the clips they checked were changed or edited.
The court is hearing a case from a group called KOHUR, which wants a full investigation.
The group says the former Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, was involved in the violence.
The court wants to make sure everything is checked properly to find out the truth.
The Supreme Court questioned why only a portion of the audio recording was sent for forensic examination.
The National Forensic Science Laboratory (NFSL) found that the examined audio clip was tampered with.
The total duration of the audio tapes is approximately 56 minutes, but only 48 minutes were filed in court.
The petitioner, Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust (KOHUR), alleges the involvement of former Chief Minister N Biren Singh in the 2023 ethnic violence.
The next hearing is scheduled for January 7, 2024, with the government seeking a week's time to respond to the affidavit.
