Meghalaya to establish urban warfare and counter-insurgency training facilities
The Meghalaya government has announced plans to build two new training facilities.
One is for urban warfare, where police will learn how to handle situations in cities, like rescuing hostages and clearing buildings.
The other is for counter-insurgency and jungle warfare, where they will learn to operate in forests and deal with rebellions.
These facilities will help the police become better at their jobs and work together more effectively.
The urban warfare facility will be near Shillong, and the other will be in the South Garo Hills district.
Meghalaya government notifies the establishment of an Urban Warfare Training Facility (UWTF) at Mawiong, 20km from Shillong.
The UWTF will offer training in basic Close Quarter Battle (CQB) techniques and advanced operations like multi-storey building clearance and hostage rescue.
The facility aims to strengthen the state's operational capacity, reduce risks to security forces, and improve inter-agency coordination during urban security operations.
A separate notification approves the establishment of a Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare (CIJW) school at Baghmara in South Garo Hills district.
The CIJW school will provide specialised training in counter-insurgency and jungle warfare to state police personnel, commando forces, and special units.
