Bombay HC: Strict GR Implementation Could Prevent Illegal Construction
The Bombay High Court is upset about all the illegal buildings being built in the Mumbai area.
The court said that if a government rule from 2009 had been followed, there wouldn't be so many illegal buildings.
The court wants the local government to put up signs with information about building projects, so people know if they are legal.
The court is also making the local government punish the officers who let illegal buildings get built and recover the demolition cost.
The judge pointed out that in other countries, laws are strictly followed, and in Mumbai there is no law abiding citizen.
Bombay High Court stated that stricter implementation of a 2009 GR could have prevented numerous illegal constructions in MMR.
The court directed the installation of boards with QR codes at construction sites in Thane, displaying project details.
TMC reported demolishing 88 illegal structures between June 19 and 25.
The court seeks recovery of demolition costs and a minimum 10% recovery from erring officers.
Justice Kulkarni criticized the lack of implementation of the GR and emphasized strict law enforcement.
