India-US Trade Deal Awaits Tariff Edge
India and the United States are working on a trade deal called a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).
India wants this deal to start once it gets a special advantage in tariffs over other countries like those in the ASEAN region.
The US has already started some investigations and has put a 10% tariff on certain goods.
India is also working on a trade agreement with the European Union, which is almost ready for approval.
Indian exporters are happy about the trade deals with Oman and the UK because they can send goods there without any extra charges.
India expects the first tranche of its BTA with the US to start once it gets a tariff advantage.
The US has imposed a 10% tariff following investigations into forced labor.
Another investigation into excess capacity is ongoing.
The legal review of the India-EU free trade agreement is nearing completion.
