Protest in Assam Leaves Students, Police Injured
In Assam, students from the All Tiwa Students' Union protested on a highway to ask for better rights and jobs.
The police tried to clear the road, and a fight happened.
Some students and a police officer got hurt.
The students want the government to include their area in a special part of the constitution, remove people who took their land, and give them jobs.
The police said the road is important and blocking it causes big traffic problems.
Everyone who got hurt received medical help, and the situation is calm now.
Protesters from the All Tiwa Students' Union (ATSU) blocked National Highway-27 in Morigaon district, Assam, demanding inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and other issues.
Police attempted to clear the highway, leading to a scuffle and lathicharge, resulting in injuries to both protesters and a sub-inspector.
ATSU demands include eviction of illegal encroachers, employment of local Tiwa youths, a special TET examination, and recognition as 'Tiwa' in the tribal list.
The highway is a crucial link between Upper Assam and Guwahati, and its blockage causes significant traffic disruptions.
All injured parties received medical care, and the situation is now under control.
