Railways Launches First LNG Train Despite Network Electrification

Railways Launches First LNG Train Despite Network Electrification

Railways has started using a train that can run on LNG.

LNG stands for liquefied natural gas.

The train can also run on diesel.

It has eight coaches and does not have air conditioning.

The train was launched from Sabarmati station in Gujarat on September 27.

It is an older DEMU train that was modified, not a completely new train.

LNG creates fewer emissions than diesel.

Railways is considering adding this technology to more DEMU trains, even though most of its broad-gauge network is already electrified.
