Mizoram Dampa Bypoll Sees High Turnout Ahead of Local Elections
In Mizoram, people in the Dampa area voted for a new leader on Tuesday because the last one passed away.
Lots of people voted, about 83 out of every 100, which is a really high number!
This election is important because it might show how people will vote in other upcoming elections for local councils and city governments.
Five people are running to become the new leader.
The party that wins will get to be the main opposition party in the state assembly if they get enough seats.
The final votes will be counted and announced on November 14.
The Dampa Assembly constituency in Mizoram recorded an 83.07% voter turnout in the by-election held on Tuesday.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of two-time Opposition MNF MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo in July.
The outcome could influence upcoming Lai Autonomous district council polls and Aizawl Municipal Corporation elections.
Five candidates from MNF, ZPM, BJP, Congress, and People's Conference contested the seat.
Results are scheduled to be declared on November 14.
