Delhi HC Refuses to Set Trial Deadline in Shraddha Walkar Murder Case
A woman named Shraddha Walkar was killed in 2022.
The police say a man named Aaftab Amin Poonawala strangled her and cut her body into pieces, keeping them in a fridge and then throwing them away around Delhi.
The case is being tried in the Delhi High Court.
The court said it is hearing witnesses every day and will finish soon, so it did not set a deadline.
Shraddha’s brother asked the court to finish faster because the trial has been going on for a long time.
The judge said the court is already working hard and no extra instructions are needed.
Delhi High Court declined to set a deadline for the Shraddha Walkar murder trial.
The trial is proceeding daily, with 157 of 200 witnesses already heard.
Accused Aaftab Amin Poonawala allegedly strangled, dismembered, and disposed of Walkar’s body parts across Delhi.
Walkar’s brother, Shreejay Vijay Walkar, petitioned for a faster trial citing constitutional speedy‑trial rights.
Justice Madhu Jain stated the court is making every effort to conclude the trial as soon as possible.
