BJP MLC Resigns to Make Way for NDA Partner
Devesh Kumar, a member of the BJP, stepped down from the Bihar Legislative Council on July 31, 2024.
He said it was a voluntary move.
The reason was to make room for Deepak Prakash, a minister in the state government who is not a member of the council.
The Supreme Court had asked the government about keeping a minister in office for more than six months without being elected.
Devesh Kumar signed his resignation in front of the state BJP president, Sanjay Saraogi, in Patna.
The move is part of the BJP’s effort to keep its alliance partner, the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, happy.
It shows how political parties sometimes swap positions to keep their partners satisfied.
The resignation was announced by the press and confirmed by the council secretary.
The government will now have to find a new member for the council seat.
Devesh Kumar, BJP MLC, resigned from the Bihar Legislative Council on July 31, 2024.
He stated the resignation was voluntary and aimed at accommodating NDA partner Deepak Prakash.
Deepak Prakash, a minister in the Samrat Choudhary government, is not a member of either house.
The move follows a Supreme Court query about retaining a minister beyond six months without election.
The resignation was submitted in the presence of state BJP president Sanjay Saraogi in Patna.
