How Zed Beats movement gave Zambians back their voice

Zed Beats is a kind of music from a country called Zambia.

It started in the late 1980s, when young people began making music at home with computers.

At that time, many Zambian musicians had gotten very sick, and lots of live music stopped.

Young producers mixed music from other countries, like rap, reggae and Afrobeats, with Zambian languages.

The new music was called Zed Beats because of the letter "Z" in "Zambia".

Young people loved it because the songs were in languages they speak every day.

The songs tell stories about money, love, faith and never giving up.

Today, singers like Yo Maps, Slap Dee, Macky 2 and Chef 187 are famous for this music.

Politicians also use Zed Beats songs to encourage people to vote during elections.

The music helped Zambians feel proud and find their voice again.
