India Tops Global Doping List Again
India has once again been found to have the highest number of doping cases among major countries that conduct a lot of tests.
In 2024, India tested over 7,000 athletes and found that 3.6% of them had used banned substances.
This is a big problem because it makes people question if India is ready to host the Olympic Games in the future.
The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) says that the high number is because they are testing more, not because more athletes are doping.
They are also trying to educate athletes about the rules and have even created an app to help athletes check if their medicine is safe.
In 2025, the number of doping cases has gone down, which NADA says shows that their efforts are working.
India conducted 7,113 tests in 2024, with a 3.6% positivity rate, the highest among major testing nations.
NADA attributes the high positivity rate to intensified anti-doping efforts and increased testing.
In 2023, India's positivity rate was 3.8%, with 213 adverse findings from 5,606 tests.
China and the United States had significantly lower positivity rates of 0.2% and 1.1% respectively.
NADA reports a decrease in the positivity rate to 1.5% in 2025, with 110 adverse findings from 7,068 tests.
