Trump Grants Hungary Sanctions Exemption on Russian Oil Purchases
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, decided to give Hungary a special pass for one year.
This means Hungary won't be punished for buying oil and gas from Russia, even though the U.S. usually has rules against this.
The reason is that Hungary is a landlocked country, meaning it doesn't have access to the sea.
Because of this, it's very difficult for Hungary to get oil and gas from places other than Russia, as it relies on pipelines.
The leader of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, met with President Trump and asked for this special permission.
Trump said he understood Hungary's problem because of its location.
Interestingly, Trump has been stricter with other countries, like India, who also bought Russian oil, by putting high taxes on them.
The US has granted Hungary a one-year exemption from sanctions on Russian oil and gas purchases.
The announcement followed a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at the White House.
President Trump cited Hungary's landlocked geography and lack of sea access as reasons for the special exemption.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán personally appealed to President Trump for this relief.
This contrasts with Trump's actions towards other nations, such as India, which faced tariffs for purchasing Russian oil.
