EC calls TMC for meeting amid SIR row
The Election Commission has invited the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for a meeting on November 28 at 11 am.
This comes after TMC leader Derek O'Brien requested a meeting with the EC.
The meeting is set against the backdrop of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee writing to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, seeking his intervention in issues related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Mamata Banerjee has criticized the EC and warned the BJP, stating that if she is challenged in the state, she will shake the BJP's foundation across the country.
Meanwhile, TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee addressed over 25,000 party leaders and workers, emphasizing the importance of submitting 100% of SIR enumeration forms to avoid repeating mistakes made in Bihar.
He also announced that a team of 10 MPs will go to the Chief Election Commissioner to demand an apology over the death of 35 people from 'SIR fear'.
The SIR is currently ongoing in 12 states and Union territories, including West Bengal.
