World's Most Powerful Passports 2025: Singapore Tops, India Slips to 85th
Imagine passports are like 'tickets' that let you visit different countries without needing a special permission slip (a visa) beforehand.
Some tickets are super powerful and let you visit almost everywhere!
This year, Singapore has the best ticket, letting its people go to 193 places without a visa.
South Korea and Japan also have great tickets.
Sadly, India's ticket isn't as powerful as it used to be; it used to be able to get you into 80 places easily, but now it's only 57.
Even the United States' ticket, which is usually very good, dropped out of the top 10 list this year.
This happens because countries sometimes make it harder for others to visit them, and then those countries make it harder for visitors too.
So, a passport's power shows how easy it is for people to travel around the world.
Singapore holds the top spot for the most powerful passport in 2025, offering access to 193 visa-free destinations.
South Korea ranks second with access to 190 destinations, and Japan is third with 189 destinations.
India's passport has fallen to 85th place, providing visa-free access to only 57 destinations, down from 80th in 2024.
The US passport, for the first time in 20 years, is not in the top 10, sharing the 12th tier with access to 180 destinations.
The 'openness gap in reciprocity' is cited as a reason for declining rankings, especially for Western countries like the US and UK.
