Sonam Wangchuk's Wife Challenges Detention in Supreme Court
Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk is being held in jail under the National Security Act.
His wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, is taking the government to court.
She's asking the Supreme Court to make the government release him.
Angmo believes her husband’s arrest is wrong, and that the government is violating his rights.
She wants to be able to talk to her husband.
She also claims the government is harassing other people in Ladakh.
The family has not received any information about the arrest.
Angmo is also being kept under house arrest.
Sonam Wangchuk’s wife has filed a plea in the Supreme Court challenging his detention under the National Security Act (NSA).
The plea seeks his immediate release and questions the decision to invoke the NSA against Wangchuk.
Wangchuk was detained on September 26, two days after protests in Ladakh.
The wife has sought immediate access to Wangchuk, both telephonic and in person.
The plea alleges Wangchuk’s detention is illegal and violates fundamental rights.
