Delhi Sanctuary Celebrates Indian Flapshell Turtle Hatchling
A baby Indian Flapshell turtle hatched at the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary in Delhi!
This is great news because the sanctuary has improved the area to help turtles.
They added things like sand beds, stones for basking, and plants to make the turtles happy and encourage them to breed.
The Indian Flapshell turtles are protected by law and are considered vulnerable, so this hatching is an important step in helping them.
Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary (ABWS) in Delhi welcomed an Indian Flapshell turtle hatchling.
The rescue center is located in the Aravalli Hills in Delhi's Tughlakabad.
Ecological upgrades were made to create a semi-natural habitat for the rescued turtles.
Efforts included sand beds, maintaining water levels, and adding basking stones.
The Indian Flapshell turtle is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and is listed as ‘Vulnerable’ by the IUCN.
