Adkitta Examines Working Parents, Nannies and Unequal Power
Adkitta is a film about parents who work and need someone to look after their small child.
Gautam and Kasturi hire Mangal as their nanny.
Mangal works hard and becomes very close to the child.
She also has a sick son whom she leaves behind to do her job.
Kasturi begins to worry that Mangal is becoming too important in the child’s life.
The family starts arguing about rules, love and control.
The film shows that the parents have more money and power than Mangal.
The review says the movie raises important questions but does not explore them deeply enough.
Sai Tamhankar’s performance is described as especially strong.
Ashutosh Parandkar’s Marathi film follows working parents Gautam and Kasturi as they hire Mangal to care for their toddler.
Mangal becomes deeply attached to the child while neglecting her own ailing son, blurring the line between employee and family.
Kasturi grows anxious about Mangal’s closeness to the child, while Gautam attempts to mediate their conflict.
The review says the film establishes an important premise but loses depth when exploring the employer-employee relationship.
Sai Tamhankar is singled out for her performance, while the film’s ending addresses the power imbalance between affluent parents and their working-class nanny.
