AEI Approved for India Freighter Conversions
A company from the US called AEI, which changes passenger planes into cargo planes, has just gotten permission from India's aviation authority to do this in India.
Their first customer is an Indian cargo airline called Afcom Holdings.
They will use a converted B737-800SF plane to carry goods to places like Vietnam, Thailand, Maldives, and Sri Lanka.
The conversion process takes about 3 to 4 months and makes the plane stronger and able to carry up to 23 tonnes of cargo.
AEI has already converted 85 of these planes for customers around the world.
This is good news because there are no new cargo planes being made, and converting old ones is much cheaper.
AEI received DGCA approval for B737-800SF passenger-to-freighter conversions in India.
Afcom Holdings will be AEI's first Indian customer, operating the converted aircraft from Chennai.
The conversion process includes reinforcing the floor, adding a cargo door, and installing cargo systems.
AEI has global approvals from aviation authorities in the US, Europe, China, and other regions.
The converted B737-800SF can carry up to 23 tonnes of cargo and takes 100-120 days to convert.
