ITR Filing Deadline Extended for Non-Audit Cases
The government has given people more time to file their income tax returns this year if they don't need an audit.
Instead of July, they now have until mid-September.
This is because the tax forms were changed, and the tools to help people fill them out weren't ready on time.
If you file late, you'll have to pay a fee.
If you are required to get an audit done, then the deadline hasn't changed and you will still need to file your return by the end of October.
It is better to file early because you can avoid problems.
The ITR filing deadline for non-audit cases was extended to September 15, 2025.
The deadline for audit cases remains October 31, 2025.
Extensions were announced in May 2025, earlier than usual.
Changes in ITR forms and delayed utilities prompted the extension.
Late filing attracts fees and interest; filing after December 31, 2025, has limited options.
