New SIP Route for T-bills to Boost Retail Investor Participation
Imagine you want to invest in government bonds, but don't know how to start.
Now, there's a new way for regular people to invest in these bonds, called Treasury Bills (T-bills), using something like a savings plan.
T-bills are like short-term loans to the government.
These are becoming more popular because they pay better than bank savings accounts.
The government also made it easier to invest, and you can set it up to automatically invest in T-bills.
Experts say that for these investments to become very popular, it needs to be easy to use, people need to know about them, and the government may have to add some tax benefits.
Retail investors in government securities will gain access to Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs).
Treasury bills (T-bills) are short-term government securities with a maturity of up to one year.
Investments in T-bills have increased, with primary market subscriptions rising by 37% as of August 4.
The RBI's Retail Direct platform now offers an auto-bidding facility for T-bills, including investment and reinvestment.
Experts believe that platform ease, awareness, and tax incentives are key to the long-term success of T-bill SIPs.
