ICICI Bank's Minimum Balance Hike Sparks Customer Outrage
ICICI Bank is raising how much money you need to keep in your savings account if you open a new one.
In cities, you'll need ₹50,000, in smaller towns, ₹25,000, and in the country, ₹10,000.
This is more than before.
If you don't keep enough money, you'll be charged a fee.
Many customers are unhappy, calling the change discriminatory and some are threatening to switch banks.
ICICI Bank increased minimum balance requirements for new savings accounts.
Metro/urban customers' MAB increased to ₹50,000, a substantial rise.
Semi-urban MAB is ₹25,000, and rural is ₹10,000, both also increased.
Changes apply to accounts opened on or after August 1, 2025.
Customers face penalties if they fail to maintain the minimum balance.
