Punjab Police Arrest 11, Identify 28 After Campus Unrest
Police in Punjab say they have arrested 11 people after unrest at two universities.
Nine arrests are connected to Lovely Professional University, and two are connected to Chitkara University.
Police have also identified 28 more people they say may have been involved.
They say some online posts and rumours helped fuel the trouble at Chitkara.
At LPU, police say the unrest included damage to property and police vehicles.
One person arrested in the LPU case is a minor.
Police say their investigation used CCTV, phone analysis, and online posts.
The arrests follow protests and violence after reports of a student's alleged sexual assault at LPU and claims about missing students at Chitkara.
Punjab Police said nine people were arrested over unrest at Lovely Professional University (LPU), and two former students were arrested over violence at Chitkara University.
Police identified 20 additional people in the LPU case and eight others in the Chitkara case.
The LPU arrests include seven students and two outsiders; one of those arrested is a minor.
Police allege that two Chitkara former students spread misleading posts and rumours that helped provoke unrest.
