Naidu Fast-Tracks BPCL’s Ultra-Mega Ramayapatnam Refinery Project Plan
Andhra Pradesh wants BPCL to build a very large refinery near Ramayapatnam Port.
The refinery would process nine million tonnes of crude oil each year.
It could cost about Rs 1.45 lakh crore.
The project would make fuels such as petrol, diesel and aviation fuel.
It would also make petrochemical products used by factories.
Most of the land needed for the project has already been given to BPCL.
The remaining land is expected to be provided in October.
Naidu also wants a nearby park where companies can make more chemical products.
He said India will need more petrochemicals as cities and manufacturing grow.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed BPCL to accelerate its proposed refinery-cum-petrochemical complex near Ramayapatnam Port.
The greenfield project is planned between Prakasam and Nellore districts with nine million tonnes per annum of refining capacity and an estimated investment of Rs 1.45 lakh crore.
Final environmental clearance is expected by the end of September, while construction is expected to begin after the investment cost is finalised in October.
About 75 per cent of the 6,000 acres required for the project has been handed over, with the remaining land expected by the second week of October.
Naidu proposed a 1,500-acre downstream petrochemicals park focused on chemical feedstocks and advanced materials rather than fuel production alone.
