Naidu Pushes BPCL’s Ultra-Mega Ramayapatnam Refinery Project Forward
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wants BPCL to quickly build a large refinery near Ramayapatnam Port.
The refinery would process nine million tonnes of crude oil each year.
It may cost about Rs 1.45 lakh crore.
The project would make fuels as well as many plastic and chemical products.
Most of the land needed for it has already been given to BPCL.
More land is expected to be transferred by October.
Naidu also wants a separate petrochemicals park nearby.
He believes India will need much more petrochemical material as cities and factories grow.
The proposed BPCL refinery-cum-petrochemical complex near Ramayapatnam Port will have a refining capacity of nine million tonnes per annum.
The project is estimated to require about Rs 1.45 lakh crore and will be built between Prakasam and Nellore districts.
Final environmental clearance is expected by the end of September, with construction planned after the investment cost is finalised in October.
About 75 per cent of the required 6,000 acres has been handed over, with the remaining land expected by the second week of October.
Naidu also proposed a 1,500-acre downstream petrochemicals park focused on future demand for advanced materials and chemical feedstocks.
