Naidu Defends Historic 34% BC Quota for Local Bodies

Andhra Pradesh plans to reserve many local government positions for Backward Classes, or BCs.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu called the 34% rural quota an important step.

Urban local bodies will have a 33⅓% BC reservation.

Naidu said BC communities represent more than half of the state’s population.

He accused the earlier YSR Congress Party government of reducing their reservation.

The earlier government’s position is not included in this report.

Naidu also announced plans involving education, skills, jobs, businesses and political representation.

He said local elections are needed so the state can receive large grants for rural and urban development.
