Karnataka Announces Two Percent Sports Quota in State Recruitment

Karnataka has set aside two percent of places in direct government hiring for sportspersons.

The rule covers several social categories, including General, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes categories.

To qualify, an athlete must have lived in Karnataka for at least 10 years.

They must also have represented the state at a national or international level.

Athletes may get extra marks for achievements in 34 listed sports disciplines.

Those disciplines include events at the Olympics and Asian Games.

Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said the measure is intended to support athletes and their future careers.

He also said the state was reviewing cash awards and planned to announce revised awards on Tuesday.
