Hyacinth Overgrowth and Encroachment Threaten Durgam Cheruvu

Hyacinth Overgrowth and Encroachment Threaten Durgam Cheruvu

A big lake in Hyderabad called Durgam Cheruvu is having two big problems.

First, a green plant called water hyacinth is growing too much and covering more than half of the lake.

This plant makes the water smell bad and hurts the fish and other animals living in the water.

People who visit the lake and the nearby park are complaining about the bad smell.

The people in charge of taking care of the lake, like HMDA and GHMC, have not done anything to fix the problem yet.

Experts say the plant uses up the oxygen in the water and blocks the sunlight, which is not good for the lake.

Second, some people have illegally taken over part of the lake to use as a parking lot.

The police have now filed a case against one of these people, a local leader named Kotha Prabhakar Reddy.

The authorities are trying to clear the illegal parking and return the land to the lake.
