Ongole Collector Leads Tree Plantation Drive on Independence Day Eve
A special day was coming in India called Independence Day.
On the day before it, important officials in a city called Ongole got together.
They planted new trees near their office building.
This is called a tree plantation drive.
They were celebrating 80 years of India being free.
They also planned fun activities like selfie video competitions.
They made sure every house could see the national flag.
They held rallies so people could show love for their country.
The head official told everyone to plant trees too and take care of them as they grow.
The same programmes were also happening in smaller towns and villages.
District Collector P Raja Babu and Joint Collector Kalpana Kumari led a tree plantation drive at the Collectorate premises in Ongole on Friday.
The drive was part of programmes held from August 10 to 15 to mark the 80th Independence Day, including selfie video competitions and Viksit Bharat-themed events.
Steps were taken to ensure the national flag flew over every house, and rallies were held to spread national unity and patriotism.
Raja Babu urged every citizen to take part in such programmes personally and to plant trees and nurture them to full growth.
Similar programmes were held on a large scale at mandal and village levels, with District Forest Officer Vinod Kumar among the attending officials.
