BJP Leadership Tensions Grow as Uttar Pradesh Elections Near
Yogi Adityanath leads the government in Uttar Pradesh and is an important BJP politician.
The BJP’s national leaders may not want the next state election to depend only on his popularity.
Instead, they say the party will campaign with several senior leaders together.
A new state BJP chief and another national organizer have been given important roles in preparing for the election.
This suggests there may be disagreements between Yogi and the party leadership.
Yogi has also criticized an election-related voter-roll exercise.
Some reports say his government spent a large amount of money promoting his image.
Party leaders must decide whether making Yogi less central will help the BJP or make it harder to win.
BJP leaders say Uttar Pradesh elections will be fought under collective leadership rather than solely Yogi Adityanath.
State BJP chief Pankaj Chaudhury and national leader Vinod Tawde are seen as limiting Yogi’s influence over preparations.
Adityanath reportedly criticized the Election Commission’s voter-roll exercise, saying most deleted voters supported the BJP.
Uttar Pradesh reportedly spent Rs 6,811.94 crore on publicity during Adityanath’s 2017–2025 tenure.
The article argues that reducing Yogi’s prominence could either curb his political ambitions or weaken the BJP’s electoral prospects.
