Former MLA Acquitted of Police Obstruction Charges
A former member of the Madhya Pradesh legislative assembly, Vipin Wankhede, and seven other people were found not guilty by a special court.
They were accused of blocking police work and threatening officers in 2020.
The court said there was no proof that they pushed or hurt anyone.
It also said that arguing with police is not a crime.
Because the evidence was weak, the court gave them a clean bill of health.
Former MLA Vipin Wankhede and seven others were acquitted by the Special MP-MLA Court on July 28, 2024.
The 2020 case alleged they obstructed police duty, threatened officers, and misbehaved at Barod police station in Agar-Malwa district.
The court found no evidence of assault or criminal force, noting that verbal disagreement does not constitute obstruction under IPC Section 353.
The prosecution failed to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt, and the police investigation was deemed insufficient.
Defence counsel Ashish S Sharma argued that questioning police in public interest should not be criminalized.
