Pune Rivers Get Tree-Felling Restraint for Development Project
Imagine Pune has some beautiful rivers with many trees growing along their edges.
A project is planned to make the riverfront nicer, but it might involve cutting down some of these trees.
People who love nature and want to protect the trees wrote to the main forest boss in Maharashtra.
This boss then told the local forest officer to be very careful and not cut down any more trees for this project.
This is good news for the trees and the animals that live near the rivers, and it means the people who asked for this will be updated on what happens next.
Maharashtra's Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) has ordered a halt to tree felling for the Pune Riverfront Development (RFD) project.
The directive applies to riparian zones along the Mula, Mutha, and Mula-Mutha rivers.
The order follows a representation made by citizen groups, including Adv. Ronita Bhattacharya Bector and Mr. Kedar Bhagwat.
The Conservator of Forests (Regional) in Pune is tasked with implementing the restraint on tree felling.
The Regional Forest Officer must inform the applicants and submit a compliance report to the PCCF's office.
