Nigeria Deploys Troops to Benin After Coup Attempt

Nigeria's Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu's decision to send troops to the Benin Republic.

This comes after Benin's government asked for help to stop an attempted coup on Sunday.

Nigerian fighter jets have already carried out airstrikes to support Benin's government.

The alleged leader of the coup, Colonel Pascal Tigri, is believed to have sought refuge in Togo.

Benin is demanding his extradition, but Togo has not responded.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has also condemned the coup attempt and ordered the deployment of its standby force to Benin.

President Talon of Benin has vowed retribution for those behind the coup attempt.

The situation is tense, and there have been casualties on both sides.
