Man Dies of Brain Fever in Kerala

A 49-year-old man named Biju, who was an autorickshaw driver from Naderi in Koyilandy, passed away on Monday at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode, Kerala.

He was being treated for a rare and serious brain infection called amoebic meningoencephalitis, also known as brain fever.

Health officials are trying to figure out how he got this infection.

This type of infection is usually caused by amoebas found in contaminated freshwater like lakes and rivers.

So far this year, there have been 154 cases of brain fever in Kerala, with 41 people dying from it.

In July alone, there have been 13 cases and 4 deaths.
