Punjab Farmers Adopt Sustainable Rice Cultivation

Punjab Farmers Adopt Sustainable Rice Cultivation

Farmers in Punjab, India, are starting to grow rice in a more sustainable way.

Traditionally, rice farming uses a lot of water, which has led to a big problem: the underground water supplies are running out.

Scientists and farmers have found new methods like Direct Seeding of Rice (DSR) and Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) that use less water without reducing the amount of rice produced.

This is important because Punjab provides a lot of rice to the country, and if the water runs out, it could be a big problem for food supplies.

The farmers are now using these new methods on more land, which is a good sign for the environment and for making sure there is enough food in the future.
