West Asia Conflict Pushes Oil Prices Toward $110 a Barrel

Oil prices rose sharply because fighting and tensions increased in West Asia.

Brent oil reached about $109 per barrel, close to $110.

Another oil benchmark called West Texas Intermediate reached $104.47.

Talks about keeping ships moving through the Strait of Hormuz were delayed.

An attack on a ship and reported Houthi attacks added to worries about more conflict.

The Houthis also reportedly control parts of Yemen’s Red Sea coast near another important shipping route.

If ships or oil supplies are disrupted, countries may have to pay more for fuel.

India is especially affected because it buys about 90% of its crude oil from other countries.

Higher oil prices could make fuel and other goods more expensive in India.

An energy analysis said disruption risks may remain for a long time.
