India’s South America Visit Advances Trade Diversification Talks

India wants to sell goods and services to more countries.

Its Commerce Secretary, Rajesh Agrawal, is planning a trip to Chile, Argentina, and Brazil.

The reports disagree about whether the trip will happen from July 24 to 28 or August 24 to 28, 2026.

In Chile, India will discuss a larger trade agreement.

The two countries still need to agree on market access and how to handle important minerals.

These minerals are useful for batteries and renewable-energy equipment.

In Argentina and Brazil, India may discuss improving trade and expanding its agreement with Mercosur.

India and Brazil may also talk about a disagreement over India’s support for sugar producers and sugar exports.

Trade between India and all three countries increased during 2025–26.
