Party Seeks Contempt Action Over Delhi Protest Commute Restrictions

A political group says officials did not follow the Supreme Court’s instructions about travel to Delhi during a protest.

It filed a petition asking the Court to take action against those officials.

The petition says at least 45 Metro stations were closed for part of Friday night and Saturday.

It also alleges that trains coming into Delhi were stopped.

Chief Justice Surya Kant appointed judges to hear the petition on Sunday.

The authorities were expected to submit a report about whether they followed the Court’s order.

Separately, lawyers’ groups asked the Chief Justice to help advocates detained during the protest.

The article says his intervention led to several advocates being released.
