WhatsApp leaks raise insider trading concerns
Two big companies in India, Hatsun Agro and ICICI Lombard, accidentally shared early versions of their financial results on WhatsApp.
This happened when a senior person at each company posted the draft numbers on their personal WhatsApp status by mistake.
Even though the numbers were not final and could change, the companies told the stock market about it to be careful.
This is important because sharing such information before it's official can be against the rules.
The companies are now being more careful and have changed their rules to prevent this from happening again.
The rule makers in India are also paying more attention to stop such mistakes.
Hatsun Agro and ICICI Lombard accidentally leaked draft financial results on WhatsApp.
The leaks were seen by 19 people in one case and were quickly deleted in the other.
Both companies made formal disclosures to stock exchanges as a precautionary measure.
The incidents fall under SEBI's insider trading regulations, which prohibit sharing unpublished price-sensitive information.
Companies are advised to review their communication tools and strengthen disclosure frameworks to prevent future leaks.
